The morning was well aired by the time we hit the streets and it was again hot and muggy. The three of us went over to Columbus Circle to an open-air market where Dan left us to our own devices. We spent a couple of hours in the Natural History Museum, which had some very impressive exhibits, particularly of wildlife and very realistic dioramas. We spent most of the afternoon wandering around looking at shops. I bought a pair of rafting sandals for $40, and Linda bought some clothes. Back in Brooklyn, we dined on soggy takeaway tacos.

Amongst the chaos and decay of Brooklyn, we found it very easy to fit in. Everybody is a stranger, and no one notices another face amid the throng of people of all races, colours, and creeds.
