The day dawned grey and wet, a stiff wind blowing the rain in, but the temperature remained pleasant. Linda and I spent most of the day indoors at the cottage, with a brief foray over to Frome to buy Mick [my cousin] a self-sterilising vaccinator.
By evening, though, the rain had dried up and the clouds had begun to break, revealing clear blue sky beyond. The rain had washed the smoke and haze from the air, and from our vantage point up above Boyton Farm Sheds, the whole valley looked clear and fresh. We had walked up to the beech-lined road above the village via a public footpath, and now we descended via a steep day track, clay track to the village again.
