Monday, August 8th.

Packed up again, this time for the ride down to Corton in John’s big Mercedes, full of kids, Panda, lunch, and towing the pony Blacker in a horse float. Down at Corton, Anne spent an hour examining the horse, then we lunched on the lawn of her cottage beneath the spreading branches of the apple tree: our English family all together.

After goodbyes, John and Sally and co set off back to Swindon, leaving us to settle in at the cottage, then wander down to see Diana at Cortington Manor. In the evening, we walked up to the Dove Inn for a couple of drinks, followed by dinner. Back at the cottage, we both bathed and went upstairs in our little home away from home.
